DOW Backing Layer Films (DBLF)

DOW Backing Layer Films (DBLF) are coextruded films typically composed of four or five layer structures. The family of DOW Backing Layer Films is comprehensive and meets requirements for most types of transdermal drug delivery systems (TDDS) including analgesics, hormone therapy, smoking cessation and cosmetics.

These films work by supporting the drug matrix in place and keeping moisture, oxygen and contaminants out while remaining soft, quiet, flexible and non-irritating. The special composition of DBLF is due to a balance of chemical resistance, flexible and comfortable properties, and oxygen and moisture barrier characteristics. Additionally, these films are thin, heat sealable, printable and machinable.

All of these films are available in customized slit widths. To ensure material reliability, Dow produces Backing Layer Films according to current Good Manufacturing Processes (cGMP) and maintains a Drug Master File to ensure compliance with Food and Drug Administration (FDA) requirements.
